The Southern African Science Service Centre for Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will co-host the GMES and Africa Southern African Regional Workshop from 5 – 7 June 2023 in Luanda, Angola.

The regional workshop aims to bring policy and decision-makers in Southern Africa and other stakeholders in the wetlands, environment, and water resources management under the theme “Earth Observation Bridging the Gap between Science and Policy”. The GMES and Africa Southern Africa Regional Workshop provide a platform for policy, decision-makers, and stakeholders to strengthen cross-fertilisation, exchange knowledge on new and innovative Earth observation technologies, and promote and encourage mutual exchanges regarding sharing best practices, knowledge, and experiences.

The workshop, funded under the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security and Africa (GMES & Africa) Programme, will be attended by an estimated delegation of 100 stakeholders. The GMES and Africa Programme is an initiative between the African and European Union on Earth Observation (EO) systems in response to global needs, to manage the environment, understand and mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure civil security by providing information to policymakers, scientists, private sector, and the public.
