The Kenya Space Agency, in collaboration with Radiant Earth, is inviting interested geospatial professionals and beginners in Kenya to attend its webinar series on managing geospatial data more efficiently and understanding the proper methodologies of harnessing the benefits of open machine learning models for specific use cases. Furthermore, the webinar will equip interested individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to expand the relevance of geospatial analysis in the country.

Programme

Moderator: Charles Mwangi, Education and Outreach Lead, Kenyan Space Agency.

  • Webinar 1: SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog

   Date: Wednesday, October 18, 2023 | Time: 16:00-17:30 EAT

This webinar will introduce participants to the Spatio Temporal Asset Catalog (STAC) specification. STAC elevates the functionality of geospatial data, including data from the Open Data Cubes, by providing a standardised method for organising and describing data. This simplifies data discovery and access for satellite and drone data users.

Speaker: Michelle Roby, Developer Advocate at Radiant Earth
  • Webinar 2: Field Boundary Detection Model

Date: Wednesday, October 25, 2023 | Time: 14:00-16:00 EAT

This webinar will explore transfer learning using the South Africa Field Boundary Detection Model, developed by Radiant Earth. Participants will learn how to integrate new data into the model, enabling the identification of agriculture fields. Organisers will utilise data from Murang’a, a peri-urban town on the outskirts of Nairobi, blending agricultural and urban land uses.

Speaker: Daniel Nwaeze, Data Scientist at Radiant Earth
  • Webinar 3: Building Footprint Segmentation Model

Date: Wednesday, November 1, 2023 | Time: 15:00-16:30 EAT

Participants will learn how to adapt the Ramp Baseline Model for Building Footprint Segmentation using recent data from Murang’a. They will explore how building footprint imagery can enhance accuracy, reduce training time, and optimise high-quality model creation – ideal for urban and infrastructural planning. DevGlobal develops this model.

Speaker: James Haithcoat, Principal Consultant at DevGlobal
