The first China-Africa BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) Cooperation Forum will be jointly organised by the China Satellite Navigation Office, China National Space Administration, Secretariat of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, Ministry of Digital Economy and Telecommunications of Senegal, and Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Department of the African Union Commission.

To share the achievements of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, improve satellite navigation applications in African countries, and better serve African countries’ economic and social development, the China-Africa BDS Cooperation Forum is proposed under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. It will serve as a regular platform and exchange mechanism for satellite navigation cooperation and build new bridges and bonds for collaboration and exchanges in the field of satellite navigation between China and Africa.

Navigation satellite systems are significant space infrastructure, which among other things, can provide all-weather, all-time and high-precision spatial and temporal information services. Also, they have been widely used in areas, including transportation, land surveying and mapping, precision agriculture, power distribution, and mass consumption, as well as emerging fields such as bicycle sharing, drones and intelligent vehicles. Therefore, they have played an important role in facilitating the development of human society and economy and advancing the progress of science and technology.

The forum will be held on November 5, 2021, both online ( via ZOOM at 15:30 (Beijing time) ) and onsite (Beijing, China). Furthermore, participants will be briefed on the development and capabilities of the BDS, its service performance in Africa and related policies for cooperation with Africa.

Discussions will also focus on China-Africa satellite navigation requirements and possible cooperation, with a thematic concentration on infrastructure construction, education and training, application technologies, industrialisation, and other issues. The Forum will result in relevant outcome documents.

The official languages of this forum are Chinese, English and French. In addition, the draft agenda of the conference is attached as follows.
