The Secure World Foundation (SWF) invites interested individuals to apply for its Dr Michael Simpson Scholarship Fund, formerly known as the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) Scholarship Programme, which supports young professionals in attending the 2023 International Astronautical Congress (IAC) between October 21 – 25 October 2023, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
About Dr Michael Simpson Scholarship Fund
Since the fund’s inception, SWF has received more than 400 applications and provided 56 scholarships to students from 28 countries. The goal is to provide an opportunity for young space professionals to participate in the IAC conference, enhance their professional growth, and contribute innovative ideas to the global space community.

- Transportation to/from Baku, Azerbaijan; and
- Lodging during the IAC.
Scholarship Award
The SWF scholarships will be awarded in increments of USD 500, ranging from USD 500 – USD 1500.
Eligibility
Applicants must be under 35 years old and must have an abstract accepted for presentation at the 2023 IAC. In addition, their paper must address one of the following topics:
- Space Sustainability;
- Space Law and Policy’ and
- Human and Environmental Security.
How to Apply
Applicants must complete the form with their contact and paper details by 18 June 2023. In addition, they must submit a short essay (max 500 words) explaining why presenting their research at the IAC is essential and what they hope to gain from the experience.
Furthermore, scholarship recipients must submit a trip report to SWF after the Congress.
